VARIABLE CREDIT SYSTEM

Attendance and quality work earn credits towards graduation. Alternative Schools operate on a variable credit system. A student will have an opportunity to earn up to 5 credits per semester for each class they attend. Credits are issued quarterly at 2.50 per quarter, 5 per semester and 10 per school year. A total of 220 credits are necessary to fulfill the requirements put forth by the Novato Unified School District, required for graduation from Marin Oaks High School.

POINT and GRADING SYSTEM

Points will be used to keep track of student effort and progress and will be used in the determination of grades.

  • Students will be able to earn approximately 125 points per week in each class.
  • Grading and credits earned will be based on total points possible for each class
  • The cutoff percentages for each grade are as follows:

         o 90%=A; 80%=B; 70%=C; 60%=D (Below 60 % = variable credits
o Variable credits can be assigned at the end of each
quarter if a student is enrolled for only a portion of the
quarter. Credits will be adjusted for time enrolled.
o The student can also earn ROP and community service credits.

  • Class grades will be posted regularly to keep the student informed
  • Students will attend advisory at least once per month to meet with a staff member in an academic counseling session.
